Objectives

Our goal is to invite those who wish to learn and share in the experience of being an electoral observer.  Our delegations represent people from a broad range of professional and educational backgrounds and community groups.  Observers’ involvement will serve as a powerful message of support to the people of Latin America.  It will also provide delegates an opportunity to learn first-hand about various Latin American electoral processes,  political history and the challenges facing civil society in constructing a democracy.  Observers will be encouraged to join with other Canadians and Latin Americans to work together on common social justice issues.

Delegates will:

·        learn about the  Constitution and electoral process of the host country

·        learn critical skills required to be an electoral observer

·        serve as electoral observers

·        report on their observations of the electoral process

·        meet with representatives from Latin American civil society, political organizations and government agencies

·        educate and inform Canadians about the electoral process in the country in which they served as an observer

·        develop cooperative links between Canadian and Latin American non-governmental civil organizations
